BOWING CEDAR
Saanich, Canada
2025
Set within a forested waterfront property along the Saanich Inlet, this North Saanich residence embodies restraint and reverence for its natural setting. Guided by Japanese principles of balance and simplicity, the single-level home bends with the land, preserving mature trees and framing quiet views of forest and sea. Western red cedar, sandstone, and limestone form a timeless palette, chosen to weather gracefully and reveal the craft of their making. Expansive glass walls dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, while deep eaves and covered terraces extend living spaces into the landscape. Architecture, light, and nature exist in seamless dialogue, creating a home that reflects a deep respect for place, an enduring retreat of stillness and connection.
